True North
Follow adventurers Doug Stoup and Michael Mitten as they travel to the North Pole April 2009.
Since losing his father in June 2007, Michael Mitten has wanted to do something extraordinary for Macmillan Cancer Support to ensure that they have the funding to continue to make a difference to the lives of cancer patients. With the True North Expedition, Michael hopes to raise £50,000 for their efforts.
Michael and Doug will set out from Longyearbyen, Norway for Ice Camp Barneo on April 2nd. From Ice Camp Barneo, they will travel from 110 kilometres to the Geographic North Pole facing average temperatures of -30 to -40 degrees Celcius, broken ice ridges often many meters high, while pulling all their necessary gear and supplies in sleds that weigh up to 50 kilos.
