Two Feet On The TableThe TWO FEET ON THE TABLE expedition is an expedition to reach the Geographic North Pole by foot this April. Members of the expedition are raising funds for for the Aqualung Trust, The Motor Neurone Disease Association, and The Naomi House Children’s Hospice.

The team will set out from Ice Station Barneo on April 13, 2009  to face average temperatures of -30 to -40 degrees Celcius, broken ice pressure ridges often many meters high, while pulling all their supplies by sled.

About the Name “Two Feet on the Table”

In days gone by, there was a custom amonst sailors that those who had rounded Cape Horn were entitled to put one foot on the table after dinner and those who had crossed the Arctic Circle were entitled to put both feet up!

Doug Stoup

Veteran explorer Doug Stoup is honored to be leading the Two Feet on the Table Expedition over the frozen Arctic Ocean to the Geographic North Pole.

Jim Ratcliffe

Jim is an avid runner, cyclist, windsurfer and passionate skier. Jim hopes his trek to the North Pole will raise funds and support  for a local charity he feels strongly about, The Naomi House Children’s Hospice.

Sam is currently a student of Civil Engineering at University in Kingston. Sam plays rugby for the London Welsh 2nd Team. Last year Sam and his brother George, ran the London marathon to raise money for children with Leukimia. This will be his first polar expedition.

George is currently a student of Economics at University in Bath. George enjoys boxing, water-skiing and running. This will be his first polar expedition.

After short but successful military career that ended prematurely due to a near fatal paragliding accident in Germany, Chris now serves as a  Director and Partner of Edmiston and Company, a yachting company formed in 1996.

Chris lives in Monaco with his wife Kitty and their two daughters, Lily and Grace.  Chris is a keen skier, sailor, windsurfer and gardener. Chris dedicates his expedition to the memory of  good friend, Nick Baker, and is raising funds for the foundation Nick established before his death, The Aqualung Trust.

adamcareyAdam Carey

Professor Adam Carey is a doctor, nutritionist, and leading commentator on all areas of sports nutrition and human performance.  He  acted as the Head of Nutrition for the England Rugby Football Union from 1999 to 2006 which included their world cup win and has consultated for the British Olympic Association. Adam hopes his trip to the North Pole will help raise funds and awareness for The Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Fred is married to his wonderful wife Jess, and father to Ollie, his step-son, and Delilah who was only born on the 26th March this year.  To plagiarize his father, Fred’s main interests are ‘eating and idling’.  Fred has done a number of endurance challenges in the past including the Haute Route (a winter crossing of the Alps) on a snowboard.

A doctor by formal training, Fred now acts as a nutrition and human performance consulant  to top athletes and the sports nutrition supplement industry. Fred walks in memory of his brother-in-law, Doug Ousterman and hopes to raise funds for The Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Henri has been a ski instructor for the last 20 years,  living in Courchvel in the winters and on the west coast in the summers, where he owns and manages a restaraunt.  He is married with two daughters.  A fan of  adventure, nature and challenges with good friends–he thinks the North Pole sounds like a good target for an expedition.

Alessia is a Tax Manager and mother to her daughter Julia, who is 11 months old.  Alessia will camp at Ice Station Barneo and will join the team at the North Pole by helicopter. Alessia is Italian, hates camping and suffer lots  from the cold, however she decided to join the expedition to support the team and Naomi House. Alessia will give a feminine touch to the expedition and will be in charge of shaving the long beards!
