Last Day of Training Before We Hit the Ice

April 12, 2009

Training in Longyearbyen
Training in Longyearbyen

Today we went for skiing for several hours to test out the weight of our sleds and do some last minute training.  After  our training, we attended our safety meeting for tomorrow’s departure onto the ice. We finished off the day with a great Easter dinner buffet at the Radisson. We hope to rent some snow mobiles in the morning for a couple hours before we depart at 4PM for Barneo Ice Station to start the expedition to the Geographic North Pole. Everyone in great spirits and temps today were around -16 with windchill around -24. The pole is experiencing high winds out of the North East and temps -25 with wind chills -40. We are all hopeing to depart on schedule tomorrow.
