Welcome to Ice Axe Expeditions

Antarctica Peninsula Adventure Cruise

Our 13 day Antarctica Peninsula Adventure Cruise departs from Ushuaia, Argentina, the southern tip of South America, to Antarctica to ski and explore the coldest, driest, and windiest continent in the world. Exploring the true final frontier means a chance to see Leopard Seals prowl the edge of the sea ice beneath towering peaks while penguins rest on icebergs on the most remote continent on earth: Antarctica. These are just some of the experiences that make the Antarctica Peninsula Adventure Cruise a must on the bucket list. The accessibility to the rugged beauty of the fjords, glaciers, and peaks of Antarctica is made possible by the modern convenience and comfort of the Sea Adventurer expedition ship, which serves as the mobile base camp to backcountry ski, snowboard, kayak and snowshoe Antarctica alongside our experienced guides.

Amazon River Cruise

Our 10 day Amazon River Cruise explores the Rio Negro river in the Brazilian Amazon which is part of the greater Amazon basin; the largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest in the world. Explore the home of nearly one-third of all species on the planet by stand up paddleboard or dugout canoe, experiencing the beauty of the Amazon up close while also enjoying meals of fresh fruit and fish aboard an air-conditioned riverboat. Fish for Piranha and search the canopy of the Amazon for Howler Monkeys and Scarlet Macaw as you slip silently through the largest blackwater river in the world. The unique perspective of stand up paddleboarding in one of the world's most mysterious and diverse ecosystems makes the Amazon River Cruise a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the magic of the Brazilian Amazon.

Sail and Ski Svalbard

Our 9 day Sail and Ski Svalbard explores the island of Svalbard via sailboat, just 600 miles south of the north pole and well within the Arctic Circle. Ski virgin descents down steep couloirs while keeping an eye out for reindeer, seals, walrus, and some of Svalbard's 2,650 polar bears that inhabit the many glaciers, peaks and fjords of the island. After a day of backcountry skiing under Svalbard's never setting sun, cruise back in the zodiac to the warmth and comfort of a hot meal and a warm bunk aboard the Arctica II. The Sail and Ski Svalbard trip begins in Longyearbyen, the largest settlement in Svalbard and includes trips to the northernmost year round settlement in the world, Ny-ålesund, and the abandoned Russian mining town of Pyramiden, while also exploring the many ski descents that Spitsbergen has to offer. The incredible arctic landscape, wildlife and history of Svalbard, with the ability to explore alongside our experienced guides aboard the Arctica II are what make the Sail and Ski Svalbard trip unforgettable.

Greenland Ski Tour

Our 9 day Greenland Ski Tour trip explores the vast glaciers and mountains of central west Greenland by ski, snowmobile, boat and dogsled. The remote wilderness park and adventure camp of Igloo Mountain outside of Sismiut, Greenland, accessed via snowmobile provides the perfect basecamp to explore and ski the vast expanse of Greenland. This is complemented by a boat for water based ski exploration allows the ability to use the 20 hours of sunlight to explore the world's largest island while also helping to support local Greenlandic youth initiatives.
